My simple life

The life of a simple guy, man, boy... who is always so favoured by God.... Never good with fancy words.... just blessed with a simple joy... something not all man has... but if they want it... they only need to ask... Jesus said:"Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete" (John 16:24)

Trip to Cancun, Mexico

Finally time for a grand update of what has happened in the past months.

The reason why I am doing this is because I am free from my exams for the fifth time!! That’s actually one time too many…. Because I freaking failed my Regulation part… how can a singaporean fail this ang moh exam… beats me too… literally..

A lot to say…. So it’s about getting as much in as possible, rather than organizing them in an orderly manner.

First up... Cancun Mexico.

Just came back from Cancun, Mexico… really beautiful place. Highly recommended if you are in the US… but if you need to fly in from Europe or Asia… I am sure u can spend your money on a place nearer… like Maldives and Mauritius.

I went there with Zhiying over the thanksgiving holidays. From Wednesday till Saturday night (then spent one night in scary Mexico(pronounced Meh Hi Co) City.) We stayed in The Westin (regina), which is a wonderful hotel. I have never seen so many deck chairs facing the beach… and so organized….. facing the wonderful looking water. It was written beach resort all over….

In that short few days, we went swimming, parasailing, snorkeling in Cozumel, and just plain chilling by the beach.

The waves were really killers… they were coming in fiercely, pounding on the beach. On the first day, I had lots of fun trying to beat the waves, but after being thrown onto the sea bed a couple of times, I was totally exhausted. It’s hard to describe the kind of fun. It’s the adrenaline rush when you beat the wave when it comes in. But once I missed the beat, and took a beating by consecutive waves… that knocked the wind out of me… and I had to return to my deck chair after I think less than 20 mins.

We went parasailing too, which was ok. On the 3rd day, we went on a snorkeling trip to Cozumel. It was good to finally see this place that has been mentioned on all Caribbean cruises. The island is a decent island to be on. The snorkeling wasn’t great…. But it was still an interesting experience going there.

The 3rd day was our check out day. It started brilliantly with Man utd losing to Bolton and Liverpool destroying Newcastle. We basically checked out of the hotel, and spent the rest of the day lying by the pool/beach side. It was really relaxing. There was an anxious moment when someone actually almost drowned in the sea. Like all drama series, it ended with the person being revived… and sent to the hospital…. Which is good…

We stopped over at Mexico City, for a brief night. Our plan the next day was at 930am. So Zing suggested we take the 7am shuttle(the shuttle leaves on the hour), which will get us to the airport at 720am. Uncharacteristically, I suggested we take the 8am shuttle (must have mixed too much with two guys who like to cut it close).

Being rather submissive (or did she just wanted to prove me wrong)….. she agreed. We got up the next day, and hopped on the 8am shuttle. As fate would play it… we were dropped off a fair distance away… (that idiot drive must have thought we wouldn’t give him tips). We got to the airport at about 825am, which is slight over an hour from our departure time.

When we got to the Aeromexico check in counters, it was PACKED… we tried to wave our Elite status… but it was to no avail. Then we told them that we are not checking in bags… it didn’t help too. We need to GET IN LINE….

Fortunately, we found a “depart soon” line. We were waiting in line, and before we know it… a crowd of 3 to 4 couples rushed past us into the counter. The Singaporean instinct in us immediately responded by “chopping” a place between the 3rd and 4th couple. When the Aeromexican personnel asked “HOUSTON?”… ALL OF US in line shot up our hands earnestly. (Haiz… everyone in the same boat)

During this time, I could see that the blood boiling in my dearie… she finally asked me politely… : “Wo ke yi ma ni ma?(Can I scold you??)” Of course I granted that reasonable request. She said a few choice words politely… and we went back to our business of trying to get a boarding pass issued.

Like all stories, this one came to a good ending. We got our boarding pass issued and got on the flight well ahead of time.
